Even after reading this, you'll still probably murder the little globes of sunshine sprinkled throughout your yard, but you should at least know a few things about your victims before doing so.

Common Dandelion: Taracum officinale
Dandelions are edible, and they're not half bad. You can eat the flower in the spring and the roots in the fall. Be sure to get the bugs off first.
They're high in Vitamins A and C. Don't pay high prices for multivitamins, grab a handful of weeds.
Their roots can be ground and used as a coffee substitute. If you get the gumption, here's how to do it: https://www.eatweeds.co.uk/dandelion-root-coffee-recipe
You can also make Dandelion Wine. It's complicated, but here's a link: http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Dandelion-Wine
So there you go. There's potential wine and coffee in your yard. Delicious treats and vitamins to boot!
Learn more about Dandelions. Be sure to take the Universal Edibility Test before you have a yard salad.
